::Fans' Information:Henan Siwu Laojiao in Singapore for 5-day
training camp::
SINGAPORE, 14 March 2008: Chinese Super
League side Henan Siwu Laojiao arrived in Singapore early
this morning for a five-day training camp ahead of the start
of the new Super League season in China.
They will take on current S.League
leaders Super Reds as well as northern side Woodlands Wellington
in two friendlies during their stay here.
Former China international Jia Xiuquan
took over as head coach at the end of last year and he has
outlined a three-year plan to establish Henan among the elite
in Chinese football.
He also explained that one of the reasons
why they chose to come to Singapore for their pre-season was
that the club is interested at the possibility of fielding
a team here in the S.League a la existing foreign clubs Dalian
Shide and Albirex Niigata.
"The standard of Singapore football
has improved very fast compared to the time when I was a player.
It has grown in all aspects since then from the professional
league to your National Team. I'm certainly very impressed.
"This is the final stage of our
pre-season training and yes, we are also exploring the possibility
of playing in Singapore in the future, "said the 45-year-old.
His playing career had seen him play
for clubs in Japan (Gamba Osaka), former Yugoslavia (Partizan
Belgrade) and even Malaysia (Malaysian Polis). One highlight
of his glittering career would be him being crowned the AFC
Asian Cup Finals' Most Valuable Player in the tournament hosted
by Singapore in 1984.
"We have brought 33 players here
and we hope to understand more about Singapore football through
this trip. I want my players to constantly improve themselves
and look to raise their standards so that they can play at
levels beyond China."
Among the squad of 33, two players
Yang Ning and Lu Feng are in the China senior
National Team while three players Zou You, Liu Yu and
Wang Shou Ting are in the China Olympic Team. There
are two foreigners in the squad Brazilians Douglas
Roberto and Gilson Domingos.
Jia praised the concept of inviting
foreign teams to play in our domestic league. "It is
a good concept. There's a flow of knowledge between Singapore
and our own countries. There are many good things we can take
from you and similarly, there are good things from us that
you will be able to learn.
"This creates more opportunities
for cooperation between countries and it is also great to
see three teams from three big Asian football countries like
Japan, Korea and China playing in Singapore. "
