Paul Cunningham - Yeo's Ambassador

SINGAPORE, 4 May 2012 - When New Zealander Paul Cunningham joined Balestier Khalsa back in 2010, much was not known about him other than the fact that he is a 1.89m tall centreback. There were skeptics too, after another foreign defender, Seth Galloway, was signed in 2009 only to be released two months earlier.

All that have changed as Cunningham is now one of the bigger names in Singapore football and there are calls for him from fans to get him naturalized and represent Singapore internationally once he fulfill requirements.

Cunningham’s performances have been superb so far this year, where he has helped Balestier to a league-best defence with just six goals conceded after ten S.League games.

In fact, Cunningham has been playing well since the 2011 season. Despite finishing third from bottom, he was widely acknowledged as Balestier’s best player throughout the season. That earned him an endorsement from YEO’s.

Since then, the sponsorship has gone onto great heights.

“If you noticed last year, I think that individually, I had a great season, and that was when the sponsorship started. It made me more ready, my exposure as a player has gone up and since then I’ve been endorsed by other sports sponsors. That’s all thanks to YEO’s and H-TWO-O.” said Cunningham.

“I feel prepared mentally and physically with sufficient hydration for the 95 minutes to 100 minutes we play out there, so yeah H-TWO-O has been a massive help.”

Cunningham feels that the whole campaign with H-TWO-O has been a great experience for him, adding that it has been all good fun. He is keen on repaying H-TWO-O’s help on elevating his profile as an S.League player by being a good brand ambassador.

He said, “I mean obviously now I am more prepared for the training & competition because even before I go on field, I make sure that I hydrate with H-TWO-O isotonic drink. It makes a great difference in my game because I feel more alert and my performance has improved significantly. I even give hydration tips to my team mates too, so that our team performance can be further improved.

I had a lot of fun doing the photo shoot with YEO’s. The first time when I did the shoot, I was a little nervous, but the team made me comfortable, and all I had to do was to put on a big smile and went along for the required move. When I did it again this year, it was pretty smooth sailing, even though my golf strokes were a little rusty, but I think it went well. My friends said I look pretty professional as a golfer in the advertisement and I was ecstatic when I heard that.

The team is really all made up of good people. I did not know what to expect at first for this endorsement, but so far it has paid back good returns.” he added.

One thing is for sure though, Cunningham has left his mark in his short time in Singapore already, and much of that has to be attributed to YEO’s for helping him to gain exposure.
